Welcome

This site is in beta. Announcements will appear in this box from time to time, until the site is ready for a wider audience.

Now is the best time to give feedback, suggest features, and test various odd situations. Thank you for your patience.

New stuff:
  • 2006-01-31: I'm going to goof around with Unicode at some point so that you can enter titles like Gödel, Escher, Bach without malign forces turning your ö into ö.
  • 2005-02-09: This site has moved underneath the notspecial.org umbrella because we decided that “read.ransford.org” was too hubristic. Everything works the same. If you feel like updating your bookmarks, please do.
  • 2005-02-08: There are now RSS feeds. Look at any user's page (mine, for example) to see what I mean.
Coming soon: keep track of whom you've loaned your books to, with little printable labels you can put inside the books encouraging them to note their progress on this site; comments on books; group reads. “Soon” means “when there's afflatus.” As they say, where there's afflatus, there's ...

There are 20 reads in progress.

Reads completed so far: 145.

What this site is

This site allows you to keep track of what you're reading, and also to see what other people are reading, and how far along they are, and what they plan to read in the future. This may seem useless to you at first glance, but all sorts of interesting things are supposed to precipitate from those simple tools.

Such as

Contact people who are reading the books you're reading; discuss the books. Suggest books to your friends. Coordinate simultaneous reads or group reads. Figure out what you should read based on what other interesting people are reading. Share notes.
